This should really be titled "My 5 favorite" fantasy
authors, seeing as there are a lot of important fantasy series I haven't even
touched yet (including Discworld, for example).
Mark Lawrence - the Thorns trilogy is excellent. Throughout the
books, I was always silently rooting against Jorg, and yet always wanted to see
what happened next.
JRR Tolkien - one of the patron saints of the genre, he showed
how immersive a brilliantly created and detailed world could be, and gave us
some timeless heroes and villains
Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weiss - the most awesome fantasy
series of the late eighties/early nineties. Unforgettable heroes, villains,
settings, and situations. Chronicles would probably make a great cable show.
RA Salvatore - the man who gave us Drizzt. What else needs to be
said?
George RR Martin - took a bold step to explore the political and
intrigue aspects of fantasy and it was gold. Made it cool to be into fantasy
(finally) - with some help from HBO.
Haha see what I did? Gave you 6 authors for the price of 5.
Value, folks, that's what I deliver. And yet, some amazing writers got snubbed
- Jordan, Sanderson, Brooks, Anderson, Donaldson, to name just a few
Love my list? Hate it? Who's on your list?
