MR Carey has taken an interesting slant on the zombie genre in
this book. The story is exciting, fast paced, and remains true to
post-apocalyptic and zombie genre expectations but adds nice bits of emotional
resonance.
One feature I enjoyed is that the author went in depth into a
fungal origin background for this zombie plague, something I've always thought
would make the most plausible source of a zombie-like outbreak.
There are plenty of good twists and turns along the way, and a
satisfying, not-too-predictable, ending.
It is written in present tense, which might put some people off,
so consider this fair warning. Personally, I found the use of present tense
added to the feel of urgency and excitement.
This book will appeal to readers who like:
Zombie stories
Action/Adventure
Twists and surprises
A fast pace
You will hate if you:
Hate use of present tense
