Chapter 61
Kote and Threpe compose a song mocking Ambrose named
"jackass, jackass". It becomes quite popular. Kote goes to Lorren and
asks to be re admitted of the archives, Lorren gives him a glimmer of hope if
he shows better judgement in the future. Kote faces a hearing with the masters
when Ambrose complains to them about he song, and he gets off with a slap on
the wrist. He has to write a public apology, which he does but includes the
lyrics of the song in it, helping it spread further.
Kote keeps baiting Ambrose, and you suspect it's going to get
him in trouble. And this is confirmed at the end of the chapter when he reveals
that Ambrose tried to have him killed. Also, hoping Lorren will give Kote a
chance to be re-admitted to the archive - what's the price going to be?
Chapter 62
In the workshop, Kote is dangerous explosive substance
called bone tar. Later he has a chance encounter with Denna and they spend all
night talking.
Kote continues his very chaste wooing of Denna. Checkov's bone
tar is introduced at length, this will surely come into play later.
Chapter 63
Kote has lunch with Sim and Willem. They were supposed to get
together but he forgot about them when he met up with Denna. They tease him and
he tells them the whole story. He tries to change the subject by saying Manet will let him start his journeyman project. They think Kilvin won't like that
much.
Kote goes on and on about Denna but they chide him because he
hasn't declared what he feels. Good way to end up in the friend zone. I'm going
to predict that he will eventually screw up his courage to tell her, just in
time to miss her before she leaves town or gets kidnapped or something.
